- #THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE SEASON 1 PLOT SUMMARY SERIES#
Julia is turned on by Dixon and Susan, and kills both of them. While all of this is happening, Smith’s son Thomas learns about his illness and turns himself in to the authorities.

Smith is applauded for his efforts and the war is avoided. At the very last moment, Huesmann is stopped from starting the war and arrested for being a part of the conspiracy. Smith, with one last attempt, tells one of Huesmann’s men that there is a conspiracy and that Hitler was not poisoned by Heydrich and his conspirators – not the Japanese.

Heusmann, not convinced, prepares to detonate the weapon anyways. He lies, telling the men that the film from the Japanese, showing that they have a hydrogen bomb and will win the war. Right before Heusmann is about to address the Reich and send the signal for his men to attack, Smith barges in, showing him the film given to him by Kido. Joe’s ruthless father, now the head of the Reich, tells his men to prepare to destroy San Francisco, Tokyo and all other Japanese territories, which will result in about 15 million deaths. Kido brings this film to Smith in a last ditch effort to prevent an all out war between the Reich and the Pacific States. Tagomi, who’s arrived back from the other reality with a film showing the testing of the Hydrogen bomb by America and the dangers that lurk later, approaches him. They successfully kill Onada and his staff, but they also become casualties.Īfter the death of General Onada, Kido, who survived the explosion, becomes the new general in episode 10. While the plan is for them to escape, after successfully detonating the bomb Frank and Sara are not able to get out of the building in time. In episode 9, Frank and Sara are responsible for loading and detonating a bomb underneath Onada’s office. Frank and the Resistance decide to enact another fight against the Japanese government. Meanwhile in the Pacific States, General Onada prepares for war, telling his men that they will likely die, but they will deploy their A-bomb and fight back. Counter acting the on-air reveal, Huesmann reports live that Hitler was assassinated and poisoned by the Japanese, an act of war – and a bold face lie. After Hitler passes away, Joe’s father, Martin Huesmann (Sebastian Roche), is appointed as Chancellor and is officially in charge. Dixon and team use this news to their advantage, and in episode 9 (“Detonation”), they force Lucy’s husband (who works on television) to report live on air that Hitler is actually dead. Under the rule of Dixon and his associate Susan, in episode 8 (“Loose Lips”) Julia finds out from Helen’s friend Lucy, that the Reich government is pretending that Hitler is alive and well, when he is actually dying. There’s so much that went down in episodes 8-10 that it would take me three pages to recap all of it, so I’m really going to condense my summary.īasically, everything comes to a head because of Juliana.
#THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE SEASON 1 PLOT SUMMARY HOW TO#
I think the show truly knows how to build up anticipation and fear in its audience, and fans of TMITHC know to squash their attempts at predicting what the show will do next. Killing Frank (a main character) unceremoniously, revealing how Tagomi’s knowledge from the alternate reality may be the thing that saves the day, and Juliana going rouge from the Resistance proves that the show is unafraid to do anything. The remaining three episodes showed that we as an audience are not allowed to get comfortable. Yes, having a main character save the day isn’t earthshattering, but because the show is extremely unpredictable there was a very high chance that Huesmann would’ve had the chance to flatten SF, so it was an actual relief to me when Smith succeeded. I panicked as I wondered if he would be able to get to the Chancellor in time. TMITHC cuts between him explaining what he knows to one of Huesmann’s men and Huesmann slowly activating the bomb that will flatten SF.
#THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE SEASON 1 PLOT SUMMARY SERIES#
My absolute favorite moment of the series is in episode 10 (“Fallout”), when Obergruppenfuhrer Smith must stop Chancellor Huesmann (Joe’s father) from destroying San Francisco and only has moments to get the job done. The unpredictability of this season was thrilling. That feeling is exactly what I experienced during the last three episodes of season two of THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE. You know that one friend who you HATE going out with because you have no idea what inevitable shenanigans they’re going to get you into? Are they going to get into a bar fight? Will they go home with someone they’ll regret later? Will you finally be able to enjoy a night out without incident? It’s a mixture of excitement and dread.
